Green jobs are increasingly regarded as the solution to the displacement of coal-related workers. Yet, the extent to which green jobs are easily accessible to coal power plant workers regarding co-location and skill requirements remains unclear. Here, we fill this knowledge gap through a spatiotemporal analysis of 3,765 coal power units and 3,833 cost-effective renewable energy

Firstly, Chinese government at both central and local level should fully recognize the role of solar PV industry in China's employment. As previously noted, along with the dramatic growth of solar PV power in China, concerns over heavy financial costs and social welfare effects have arisen.
China is a late comer to the solar PV industry as compared to the leading countries, particularly in terms of solar PV power generation. Nevertheless, the country's solar PV industry has witnessed dramatic growth since the 2000s ( Thornley et al., 2008).
A spreadsheet-based analytical model is established. Four indices and detailed data of sample companies are used. The number of jobs created by China's solar PV industry increased steadily during the period of 2009–2015. The jobs/MW ratios and employment skewness of China's solar PV industry declined during the period of 2009–2015.
In addition, solar PV power generation in the country increased from 0.1 TWh in 2009–66.2 TWh in 2016. The share of solar PV power in China's generation mix had grown steadily from 0.04% in 2011 to 1% in 2016 ( CNREC, 2016). Meanwhile, the solar PV manufacturing industry in the country has achieved a dominant position in the world.
According to the forecast provided by the Institute for Sustainable Futures UTS, by 2030 solar PV power generation will supply more than 10% of the world's total electricity supply, and rising to over 20% in 2040. So solar PV power will become the mainstay of energy supply in the not too distant future ( Atherton and Rutovitz, 2009 ).
In general, solar-related green jobs are more widely distributed and more frequently co-located with coal power plant workers. In comparison, the majority of cities are dominated by either wind-related green jobs or coal power plant workers but not both.
